Boolean operators such as AND, OR, NOT can narrow search results (so you get fewer and more specific results) or broaden search results (so you get more search results) if used effectively.  We use two tutorials from Colorado State University Libraries to explain basic Searching Effectively and Advanced Boolean Searching.  See attached links.
