To access USM electronic library resources, you need a USM ID card and need to activate the barcode on the card.
When off campus, you must connect to the library’s databases and other resources by signing in through the USM portal using your MaineStreet login or by using your last name and the library barcode number on your USM ID card, when prompted.
Your library barcode is the number on your USM ID card that begins with 218.... or with 25022...
Students taking classes on campus, must visit a USM campus (Portland, Gorham, or Lewiston-Auburn) Card Office to obtain a USM ID card. After obtaining an ID card, students need to stop by a campus Library to have the barcode activated.
Online-only students have two options for getting a USM ID card.
1. Visit a USM campus (Portland, Gorham, or Lewiston-Auburn) Card Office for an ID card and then bring the ID card to the Library for barcode activation.
2. Go to the Distance Learner Card webpage and follow the instructions for completing a short form. The Card office will forward your information to the Library for barcode activation.
Remember, USM students have on-line access to electronic resources that say "USM Access" and "UM System-Wide Access." Students do not have access to resources that are labeled specifically to another campus (e.g. UM Orono, UM Farmington, etc.) If you need an electronic resource, but are unable to access it, please contact the Library for assistance in possibly requesting the item from Inter-Library Loan.
