Start at the library homepage  http://usm.maine.edu/library

Under Databases and Guides (in the center of the page) you'll find a link for Subject Guide.  Follow that link and choose the Social Work guide.

In the guide you'll find a tab that says Find Articles.  That tab will list different databases (collections) of articles.  Each one listed has different limits; for instance, the PsycARTICLES database even has a methodology limiter that includes Empirical Study as an option.

Don't neglect the other databases, though.  You could add "empirical study" as a search term.

P.S.  Don't forget the "Peer-reviewed limiter" when you're in the database.
